Charlotte Marie Malone Corcoran, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend was called to God on Oct. 20, 2016. Charlotte was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on Feb. 27, 1928. She attended parochial schools from kindergarten through college, earning her Bachelor’s degree in history from Regis College in 1949.
Charlotte dedicated her life to caring for her family, friends and people in need. In 1953 she married Paul Leo Corcoran, from Belmont Massachusetts, and started a family in Maplewood, New Jersey. They happily raised their three children during Paul’s work assignments in Caracas, Venezuela; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Coral Gables, Florida. Charlotte learned to speak Spanish and Portuguese fluently in their seven years abroad. Charlotte was a Cub Scout Leader, an active church member, and PTA volunteer at all of her children’s schools.
In 1975 the family moved to Wilton, Connecticut, where they resided for 35 wonderful years. Charlotte studied interior design at Sacred Heart University and helped many friends and family members decorate their homes. She was “the hostess with the mostest,” whether tailgating at a football game or throwing the neighborhood New Year’s Eve party. She enjoyed playing duplicate bridge, driving seniors to appointments, and cooking meals for the homeless. Charlotte was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church in Redding where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and the first female trustee of the parish. She also coordinated the flowers, altar linens, and Pastor’s luncheons. “Have bag, will travel” was a favorite expression, as Charlotte traveled to six continents during her lifetime.
Charlotte is survived by her son Robert Richard (wife Lynn) of Houston, TX, son David Paul of Bonita Springs, FL, and daughter Charlotte Ann (husband Peter) of Shelton, CT. Her seven grandchildren — Matthew, Jennifer, Christian, Katrina, Charlotte, William and Christine — were the joy of her last 30 years. Charlotte was predeceased by her loving husband, Paul, her parents, Charlotte and James Malone, and her brothers Paul, James, and Richard Malone. She will be dearly missed by her immediate family and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend our warmest thanks to the staff at the Harbor Memory Care Unit of Middlebrook Farms, for the tender care provided while Charlotte was a resident.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Redding, CT. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Wilton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown CT 06829.
