Roger Waibel
Roger Waibel, 86, of Hendersonville, N.C., died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016 at Pardee Hospital. Born in New Canaan, Conn., he graduated from NCHS where he was the manager of the baseball team.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Cold War as a radio intercept with the Army Security Agency (ASA). He was later recalled as an army reservist for the Korean War.
Roger graduated from Norwalk State Technical College with a degree in electrical engineering. He raised his family in Wilton, Conn., and enjoyed the many fabulous “Waibel” summer picnics on Wolfpit Road.
Roger and his early family spent time in Italy working for Olivetti, and then worked as an electrical safety engineer for Pitney Bowes. He retired from PB after 31 years and moved with his wife of 61 years to Hendersonville to enjoy retirement. Roger and Madaline were able to enjoy several post-retirement excursions to Asia, Great Britain and the Mediterranean. Dad also loved to play local tour guide and you could find maps and brochures all over their house.
He is survived by his wife Madaline; his children, Jan Bayless (John) of Pennsylvania, Lynn of Virginia, Neal (Milagros) of Connecticut, Jill of Florida, and Lee of Connecticut. His four grandchildren also survive him — Dean, Allyson, Holly and Matthew.
Roger will be interred at the Black Mountain N.C. Veterans Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Hendersonville Rescue Mission or the Interfaith Assistance Ministry, both of Hendersonville, N.C.
