Susan Griffin Senie
On the evening of March 11, 2016, Susan Griffin Senie passed away peacefully at her home in Meadow Ridge in Redding, Conn. She was 85 years old.
She was born in New York City on Jan. 19, 1931, to Lucille Matthews Griffin and Gerald Griffin. When she was 14 years old her family moved to Westport, Conn. She graduated from Staples High School and attended the University of Bridgeport. Susan married attorney Alan H. Senie in 1951 at the Westport Women’s Club. Together they raised four children: Matthew, Christopher, Kathryn (K.C.) and Allyson. They lived more than 50 years on the shores of the Saugatuck River, first at Burritt’s Landing and later at Saugatuck Shores.
Sue became a commercial real estate broker, one of the first women in this field. She started her own firm, Commercial Properties, and eventually came to own several buildings in downtown Westport and Stamford.
For the past 12 years, Sue lived at Meadow Ridge in Redding. After her husband Alan’s death in 2006, Sue fell in love with Ray Eyes, a fellow Meadow Ridge resident. Sue and Ray were partners over the past five years until his death this past July 2015.
She is survived by her children and their spouses; Matthew and Janine Senie of Westborough, Mass., Christopher Senie and Kathryn Rosenblum of Brewster, Mass., K.C. Senie and Creighton English of Redding, Allyson Senie and Roger Colaizzi of Alexandria, Va., as well as 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Though she will be dearly missed, her spirit will live on in the good deeds that we do.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Unitarian Church in Westport at 10 Lyons Plains Road, Westport, on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Norwalk Community College Foundation in her memory. Donations will contribute to the NCC Student Emergency Fund.
