Jose Joaquin Bernal, age 85, of Waterbury, the beloved husband of Margarita Bernal, died on March 8, 2016, in Norwalk Hospital. He was born on Nov. 12, 1930, in Colombia, South America, to Javier Bernal and Maria Gonzalez.
In addition to his wife, Margarita, he is survived by his daughter Margarita Blessing and her husband David, and his son Juan Jose Bernal. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Caroline Blessing, Sofia Blessing and Lily Blessing, and two sisters, Beatriz Bernal and Anna Maria Bernal. He was predeceased by his sisters, Rosa Bernal, Elvia Bernal and Lilia Rodriguez.
A funeral will take place at 2 on Saturday, March 19, in the Wilton Presbyterian Church, 48 New Canaan Road. Interment will follow immediately in the adjacent Memorial Garden.
A reception will follow in the church parish hall until 5 p.m. Afterwards, the family will be available at their Wilton home to receive anyone who is unable to attend earlier in the day but still wishes to pay their respects. Please contact the family for details.
