Ruth Eisler Forrest was born on July 17, 1923 in Newark, N.J. and died peacefully at Meadow Ridge in Redding, on Feb. 13. She was 92 years old.
She was the daughter of Charles and Frieda Eisler, both of whom emigrated from Hungary at the beginning of the 20th Century. Her father was the founder of Eisler Engineering in Newark, and was the inventor and manufacturer of machinery required to make incandescent tubes. He held more than 50 patents in machinery design.
Forrest grew up in South Orange, N.J., loved flying an airplane and at 17 was the youngest aviatrix in New Jersey.
She attended the New Jersey College for Women (now Rutgers University) and Rollins College. In 1942 she married “the love of her life,” Arnold W. Forrest, M.D., an ophthalmologist and surgeon who practiced at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. The couple raised their three daughters in Chappaqua, N.Y. before moving to Wilton.
The Forrests were avid sailors and enjoyed all things nautical, spending weekends at their second home on Long Island Sound at Sachem’s Head in Guilford, Conn.
Ruth Forrest was predeceased by her husband and is survived by her three daughters, Leslie (Warren) Houghton of Leesburg, Fla; Noel (Bruce) Konrad of Wilton and Jennifer (David) Sonenshein of Bala Cynwyd, Pa., six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
It was her wish that donations be made in her name to The Dysautonomia Foundation at 315 West 39th Street, #701, New York, N.Y. 10018.
