Ruth Shoobe, long-time teacher in the Wilton School District, passed away this past February in Port St. Lucie, Fla., after a long battle with cancer.
She loved teaching, the students and her colleagues and thrived in her profession.
Ruth and her husband Paul, 50 years married, maintained homes in Westport, Conn., and Port St. Lucie, Fla., where they spent winters later in their lives.
Ruth and Paul raised Afghan hounds for many years, traveled the world and loved the performing arts. Ruth was known to hop the Saturday morning Westport train to head into Manhattan to see theater almost weekly. We suspected she had seen almost everything of note.
Ruth was unquestionably a master gardener and carved out, on her own, glorious perennial gardens around their large Westport property.
Ruth embraced each day with optimism, in spite of her long battle with breast cancer, and in her retirement loved to visit with friends, shop, travel, followed the sports results daily and decorated her two lovely homes.
Years ago Ruth commented that her fondest desire would be to step from cruise ship to cruise ship without her feet touching the ground. Her family is sure she is doing that right now in the great hereafter!
