Dorothy M. Argenio, “Dottie” of Venice, FL passed away October 14, 2015. She will be remembered by the spring in her step, the smile on her face, and the sparkle in her eyes. Dottie was born January 28, 1930 in Stamford, CT to Mae (Mellin) and Andrew Muzzio.
The family lived for many years at 60 North Salem Rd in Ridgefield, Christmas Corners.
Dottie entered one beauty pageant at the age of 16. She won the title of “Miss Darien” and is the one and only title winner. She couldn’t go on to state because she was too young. She was also active in many church choirs.
She met her late husband Carmine (Buck), on a blind date and after dating for 9 months, they were married in 1948. Dottie worked as a telephone operator on the old circuit boards early in their marriage. Once children came along, she was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest was in junior high. She was a Girl Scout leader (she totaled 26 years as a Girl Scout member and leader). She returned to work at the Danbury Mint doing statistical research on the computer.
Dottie stayed busy during her retirement. Her hobbies included knitting, counter cross stitch, and crochet. She was very involved with the Venice Gardens community, serving on their Projects Committee and Pool Committee. She taught water aerobics and line dancing
Dottie had her “bucket list” that she kept updating. Her major accomplishments included riding in a Shelby Mustang at 165 mph, and going to a rock concert to see Pink Floyd. She also got to see the Harry Potter Theme Park at Universal Studios. From a young age Dottie loved speed – the faster the better. Her father built her a midget racing car from a motorcycle. The fastest she had driven was 130 mph – as fast as the speedometer would show.
Survivors include her six children: Caren Buckley of Lakeland, FL, Jay Croteau of Lakeland, FL, Jim Argenio of Solvang, CA, Bobbie Argenio of Wilton, CT, Michael Argenio of Stamford, CT and Jackie Argenio of Lakeland, FL; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 PM, Wednesday, October 21 at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel with Funeral Service immediately following at 4 PM. Inurnment will be private at Sarasota National Cemetery.
Memorial Donations may be made to SunCoast Humane Society, 6781 San Casa Drive, Englewood, FL 34224. To share a memory visit www.farleyfuneralhome.com.
