Sanford H. Robbins

Sanford H. Robbins (Sandy), 82, of 5 Park Place Annapolis, Md. died peacefully with his family by his side on June 10, 2014. He was a long-time resident of Wilton and lived in Vero Beach, Fla. for 15 years prior to moving to Annapolis in 2013.

He was born in Albany, N.Y. to Elizabeth and Louis Robbins. He graduated from Cheshire Academy in 1949 and Ithaca College and Cornell University in 1953. It was at Cornell that he met and married his wife of 59 years Marlene (Muller).

Following graduation, he became a New York State trooper until going into the United States Marine Corps as a second lieutenant in 1953. He began his business career working for Thatcher Glass and American Can Corporation before starting his own business, Robbins and Keating International in 1977, retiring in 1999.

He was an avid fisherman and golfer. He was a long-time and active member of Silver Spring Country Club in Ridgefield, where he served a term as president. He was also an active member of Grand Harbor Country Club in Vero Beach. He was a former member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Wilton and Trinity Episcopal Church in Vero Beach.

He is survived by his wife Marlene, son Dr. Sanford H. Robbins, III (Mary) of Annapolis, daughter Susan Higgins (John) of Hamden, Conn., and grandchildren Mclean and Hailey Robbins and Courtney and Jack Higgins.

“He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend,” his family said. “He will be greatly missed by all.”

A funeral will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 36 New Canaan Road, Wilton, at 11 on Tuesday, June 17, with a reception to follow at Silver Spring Country Club, Ridgefield.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
